Relax in delightful Scarborough or visit another equally lovely seaside town, Whitby.

It is here that Count Dracula arrives in England in Bram Stoker's classic novel, and the town is awash with history.

Discover the narrow cobbled streets and bustling harbourside lanes, or climb the 199 steps to the ruins of the 7th century Whitby Abbey perched on the top of the cliff above the harbour.

Browse the many gift shops and don’t forget to bring back a piece of gleaming black Whitby jetstone – fossilised wood from the extinct monkey puzzle tree.

Today we take a trip to historic York. Discover the city’s Viking past at the Jorvik Viking Centre, explore 300 years of railway history at the National Railway Museum, or learn more about York’s sweet history at the Chocolate Story. Don’t miss the breathtaking York Minster – one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe and an incredible example of Gothic architecture.

Browse York’s many shops, from high street favourites to quirky and independent boutiques, along with excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants, and not forgetting the unusual Shambles, with its over-hanging timber-framed houses and traditional shop fronts.
