Considered one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Europe, the Grand Place is an architectural jewel – it’s no surprise it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site! There are many recognisable buildings on the square, such as the City Hall and the Maison du Roi.

Manneken Pis
Often referred to as the ‘oldest citizen in Brussels’, the Manneken Pis is a 400-year-old bronze statue featuring a boy urinating into a fountain. He has been given numerous costumes and decorations for major celebrations, events and festivals, and now owns a wardrobe of over 800 items!
Belfry of Bruges
One of the city’s most prominent symbols, the Belfry of Bruges is a medieval tower situated in the historical centre – the Markt. On the way up the 366 stairs you can visit the treasury, where the city's stamps, seals and funds were kept in the Middle Ages, before being rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views at the top.
Basilica of the Holy Blood
Located in a corner of Burg Square, this 12th century chapel is famous for the crystal vial kept inside that is believed to contain a drop of Jesus Christ’s blood. Consisting of two levels which could not be more different, the Romanesque lower level has very little decoration, whilst the Gothic upper level is full of detail and colour.
Museums
There’s an abundance of history to unravel in Bruges, and plenty of museums to help you do so. Art lovers will want to visit the Groeninge Museum, which houses rich collections of Flemish Primitive and Renaissance works. With other museums covering everything from Flemish life and torture to fries, beer and chocolate, there’s something for everyone!
The Fortress of Gravensteen
Also known as the ‘Castle of the Counts,’ the Fortress of Gravensteen is the only remaining medieval castle with a moat and intact defence system in Flanders. Originally built in 1180, the castle has housed a courthouse, prison and dungeons, and visitors can now view ancient torture equipment at the museum.
St. Bavo’s Cathedral
With a rich history and plenty of art treasures to discover, St Bavo’s Cathedral is a must-visit. The interior is decorated with some unique paintings, and you’ll find the world-famous "Adoration of the Mystic Lamb" by Jan van Eyck in the chapel built in the crypt.
Graslei and Korenlei
One of the most beautiful areas in Ghent, the medieval quays of Graslei and Korenlei face each other across the River Leie. Soak up the atmosphere in one of the many bars and cafés, admire the grand architecture of the guild houses or simply watch the world go by.
Grote Markt
Situated in the heart of Antwerp, the Grote Markt is a magnificent town square. There are plenty of interesting sights here, with the ornate Brabo Fountain in the middle, the grand Town Hall on the western side and many beautiful guild houses on the borders.
Cathedral of Our Lady
Built during 1352-1521, the Cathedral of Our Lady took 170 years to finish and is Belgium’s largest Gothic church. Rich in history, culture and art, you’ll find a selection of remarkable paintings here, including Rubens 'Elevation of the Cross’ and ‘Descent from the Cross.’

Found in Antwerp’s former harbour area, Het Eilandje, the Museum aan de Stroom contains everything from art to utensils, telling stories from all corners of the globe. Whether you want to learn about the gastronomic history of the city or life in America before the arrival of the Europeans, there’s something to suit all interests at this fascinating museum.
