Interlaken
Situated between the lakes of Thun and Brienz, Interlaken enjoys a magnificent setting with the famous trio of peaks – Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau – providing a picture-postcard backdrop. Take a stroll along the main promenade, the Höheweg, or explore the many attractive shops, boutiques and cafés dotted around the town.
Brienz
Nestled in unique surroundings in the middle of dramatic mountains and at the eastern end of turquoise-coloured Lake Brienz, Brienz is a typical Swiss chalet village. The architecture here is beautiful, with most of the houses decorated with wood carvings – the Brunngasse was even voted Europe’s most beautiful street!
Grindelwald
Located at the base of the mighty Eiger North Face and the Wetterhorn, Grindelwald is a fairy tale Alpine village. Enjoy scenic mountain lookouts, soak up the atmosphere of the town centre or hit one of the many walking trails.
Lion Monument
One of the most famous monuments in Switzerland, the Lion of Lucerne is a memorial honouring the sacrifice of the Swiss Guards defending the King of France. Designed by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1820, the iconic sight now attracts around 1.4 million visitors every year.
Old Town
Located on the right bank of the Reuss, the old town is the historic core of Lucerne. Preserved painted houses line the cobblestone streets, and you’ll find many charming squares to explore, such as the Kornmarkt.
Chapel Bridge
The Kapellbrucke, also known as the Chapel Bridge, dates back to 1333 and is the oldest truss bridge in the world. This remarkable sight is the centrepiece of Lucerne, boasting over 100 17th century pictures hanging from the roof rafters inside.
Lake Geneva
The largest body of water in Switzerland, Lake Geneva is the centrepiece of Geneva. You’ll certainly not miss the spectacular Jet d'Eau; a fountain shooting water 140 metres into the air! This jet has become the symbol of Geneva, and with the Swiss Alps providing the perfect backdrop, the scenery of Lake Geneva is truly breathtaking.
Old Town
One of the best places to get a taste for Geneva is the Vieille Ville, aka the old town. The area boasts a range of historic sights and cultural landmarks, such as St. Peter’s Cathedral, Maison Tavel and the Place du Bourg-de-Four, with its charming atmosphere and delightful cafés.
Parc des Bastions
Located right next to Place Neuve, Parc des Bastions is a haven of peace and tranquillity. One of the park’s major sights is the 100m-long Reformation Wall, which was erected in 1917 to honour the individuals who influenced the Reformation. The giant chess boards are another highlight, where you’ll always find people enjoying a game.
Old Town
Zurich’s old town is a must-visit! You’ll find many of the city’s key attractions here, including the Fraumünster, Grossmünster and St. Peterskirsche. The Lindenhof area is of particular interest; this is where the Romans built their fortified settlement in the fourth century, and the sweeping views across the river are spectacular.
Bahnhofstrasse
Known as one of the most attractive shopping streets in Europe, Bahnhofstrasse is brimming with boutiques, department stores and high-end shops. The Paradeplatz is the heart of the street, with many famous Swiss banks being located here as well as the world-renowned Sprüngli Café – be sure to try the Luxemburgerli!
Fraumünster Church
One of the city’s most iconic sights, Fraumünster Church is the green-spired building that dominates the skyline. The church is built on the remains of an abbey for aristocratic women, which was founded in 853 by Louis the German. The stained-glass windows are the church’s most famous feature, and these were designed by Marc Chagall and Augusto Giacometti.
