Food and Drink

Guláš (goulash)

A staple Czech dish, goulash is a rich, flavoursome stew typically made with pork, beef or game, then seasoned with paprika and topped with shredded onion. Hearty and comforting, it can be enjoyed everywhere across the country, and locals like to mop up the sauce with a side of dumplings or knedliky – usually boiled or sliced.

Czech Beer

Consuming more beer per capita than any other country in the world, there's no wonder the Czech Republic is renowned for its drinks scene. There is a huge range of bars and microbreweries across the country, serving common names such as Budvar and Staropramen, as well as craft and specialist beers. Most Czech beers are light and brewed naturally, and locals like it best served chilled with a tall head.

Rízek (schnitzel)

This breaded schnitzel is traditionally made using pork in the Czech Republic but can also be enjoyed with trout, especially during the festive season. A boneless meat/fish escalope is thinned out using a mallet then coated with breadcrumbs before frying. Enjoy with a traditional side of potato salad.

Prague

Prague Highlights

St. Vitus Cathedral

Founded in 1344, the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral in the Prague Castle complex is one of the most important buildings in the Czech Republic. It boasts stunning stained glass windows and the interior is home to the beautifully decorated St Wenceslas Chapel and Crown Chamber. The cathedral can be seen from all over the city!

Old Town

The historic streets of Prague's Old Town are a delight to stroll along, and the 600-year-old main square boasts elegant architecture and beautiful monuments. Be sure to watch the spectacle of the town hall's mechanical clock striking the hour – it is regarded as one of the best-preserved medieval mechanical clocks in the world.

Charles Bridge

Built in 1357, Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge standing on the Vtlava River. It has Gothic-style towers at each end and is lined with Baroque statues that have inspired poets and writers for centuries. Linking Prague Castle to the Old Town, visitors can stroll along the bridge to enjoy a different view of the city.

Ceský Krumlov

Ceský Krumlov Highlights

Cesky Krumlov Castle

Located in the heart of the city, the 17th century castle complex dominates the Old Town and includes the Rosenberg Ballroom, the Chapel of St. George, the Renaissance Hall and the Royal Apartments. Visitors can see paintings, tapestries and lavish period furniture, as well as stroll through the beautiful garden.

The Church of St. Vitus

Towering over the town, the Church of St. Vitnus dates back to the 1400s and is one of the oldest buildings in the city. The landmark has great historical importance as it is the burial place of many Bohemian families, including the Rosenbergs and the Schwarzenbergs. With an impressive spire and beautiful exterior, there's no wonder it is photographed so frequently.

Vltava River

One of the best things to do in summer is relax with a drink in one of the many traditional taverns or riverside bars and watch rafters, canoers and kayakers float down the Vltava River. This popular activity attracts thousands of visitors and is a great way to also soak up the fairy tale architecture!
