Fly into Athens, Greece and discover its great history, as we take you on an escorted tour of some of the country’s archaeological treasures, whilst exploring beautiful sun-drenched islands. Explore the rich historical architecture, as we visit sites such as Delphi, ‘the navel of earth’, Epidaurus with its magnificent amphitheatre, Mycenae and the famous Lion’s Gate, Nafplion and the ancient site of Olympia, home of the first ever Olympic games. We also spend time in Athens, where you can enjoy a guided tour of the city’s many sights, including the ancient Acropolis. We see the town of Nafpaktos, with its spectacular castle and amazing views over the Gulf of Corinth. With the opportunity to also visit the island of Trizonia and the village of Diakofto, you're in for an unforgettable holiday.

Fly to Athens where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a three-night stay.
This morning is dedicated to exploring the city of Athens, as we include a panoramic tour of the city. We see the House of Parliament, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Presidential Palace and the Panathinaikon Stadium. The highlight of the tour will be a visit to the impressive Acropolis. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore further or alternatively why not join our optional excursion along the coastal road of Attica to Cape Sounion. Here stands the magnificent Temple of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea, where we have an included guided visit. In ancient times, mariners would see the brilliant white marbled temple and know they were close to home. Today’s temple was built in 444 BCE on the site of the older temple. This evening we will take a walking tour of the Plaka area and dine in one of the local tavernas.

Today is at leisure for you to explore Athens further at your own pace. Alternatively, why not join our optional day cruise to the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra. Each of the islands are beautiful but they all have their own characters. Aegina is known for its great production of pistachios, Poros is known for its wonderful landscapes and Hydra is highly cosmopolitan. Late this afternoon we arrive back at the port ready for the transfer to the hotel.

We leave our hotel and head to the Peloponnese to explore the Argolic Plain. We cross the famous Corinth Canal where we have a brief photo stop. We arrive in Mycenae, a fortified Palace complex uncovered in 1874. We will also visit the Treasury of Atreus, the most outstanding of the Tholos tombs. We continue to Epidaurus where we visit the Theatre of Epidaurus, the most famous and best-preserved of all the ancient theatres in Greece. Our day continues to Nafplion, with great views of Bourtzi, a small fortified island at the entrance of its port. You will have free time to explore the winding narrow streets with the beautiful neoclassical buildings, and to take a walk on the sea-front promenade. Later, we arrive at the little town of Olympia for an overnight stay.

We spend the morning exploring ancient Olympia. Enjoy a tour through the remains of the Ancient Olympia Complex and visit the Olympia Archaeological Museum, one of the richest museums in Greece. In the afternoon, we travel to the picturesque town of Nafpaktos where we stay for four nights.

Enjoy the beach of Nafpaktos or explore more of the town on your own. Alternatively you can join our optional excursion to the village of Trikorfo (meaning “three tops”), home to the monastery of Saint Augustin and Seraphim famed for its 62 bells and 400 “simandra” (a type of bell). We continue to the fishing village of Glyfada and then set sail to the unique island of Trizornia aboard a traditional “caique” boat. Trizornia is the only inhabited island of the Corinthian Gulf and is very picturesque with secluded beaches, a pretty little fishing village and is free of cars and motorcycles.

We will explore the little town of Nafpaktos, with its tiny and picturesque fortified port. A short drive will bring us to the castle of Nafpaktos, dominating the little town, with amazing views of the town, gulf of Corinth and the unique bridge of Rio-Antirio. We will then head to Messolonghi, a town with great historical significance for Greece. Messolonghi is built on the shore of a lagoon, which is actually connected with the Ionian sea. Return drive to our hotel in the afternoon. In the evening, we will all gather together for an exciting cooking class of authentic Greek recipes and enjoy our creations.

Join our truly fascinating optional excursion to the village of Diakofto at the northern side of the Peloponnese. From here we will pick up the historical rack-and-pinion train for an unforgettable ride to Kalavrita. We will have some free time to explore before we meet with our coach again for a short drive to the monastery of Mega Spileo, built inside a cave.

This morning, we drive via Itea to Delphi. In antiquity, Delphi was considered the ‘omphalos’ (navel) of the earth, and the place where people from around the world would visit in order to receive an ‘oracle’ from ‘Pythia’. Admire the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians and also visit the Museum of Delphi. We continue to the nearby picturesque village of Arachova for a short stop before taking the road back to Athens for our final night in Greece.
