At the turn of the twentieth century, the town of Traben-Trarbach found itself at the heart of the world wine trade. This small city was once the Moselle Valley’s only town, and it was also one of the world’s most important producers of wine in the early 1900s. As the demand for wine cellars increased, the town came up with a genius solution – building huge cellars underneath the town.
On our optional excursion this morning, you can head below the streets for a subterranean experience. You’ll venture down into one of the vaults for a guided tour and, of course, a glass of wine! We return to the ship for lunch and sail towards Trier, arriving later this evening.
