The Fall of the Berlin Wall – 30th Anniversary

November 2019 will mark 30 years since the Berlin Wall came down, marking an end to the Cold War. To commemorate this monumental moment in world history, join us as we head to Berlin and attend the anniversary events in and around the city. We will also include tours of landmarks, iconic sights and important areas of the Cold War found throughout Berlin, including the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag area. As our tour takes us through Armistice Day, we will pause on the 11th November to honour the fallen in a small remembrance service at the Berlin War Cemetery.

Itinerary

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Belgium for an overnight stay.

Today, we continue our journey towards Berlin, visiting a preserved section of the old Inner German Border (IGB) at Hötensleben en-route.

Here we see the wall, tank traps and watch towers, just as they were during the Cold War.

We then continue to Berlin where we will stay for four nights.

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

We will attend special events taking place in and around the city – this may also include night time events.

Anniversary Commemorations around Berlin

Today we travel back into Berlin to look at some of the key sites connected with the Cold War in the city, including the preserved Berlin Wall at Bernauerstrasse.

We will visit Checkpoint Charlie, where the Cold War almost went hot, see a section of the wall at Westside Gallery, as well as visits to the Brandenberg Gate and Reichstag areas.

As today is 11th November, we will hold a short service of Remembrance in Berlin War Cemetery in the morning, and then travel to Potsdam for the lunch period.

In the afternoon we will see the Glienicke Bridge, made famous by the film ‘The Bridge of Spies’, the Olympic Stadium and look at Cold War sites around the Berlin TV Tower.
