Strasbourg & the Black Forest Christmas Markets

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Begin your festivities the right way and join us in exploring the magical Christmas markets of Strasbourg – illuminated with light as Christmas casts its spell on this beautiful French city. With festive stalls spread across several different areas, it’s one of the largest and oldest Christmas markets in Europe. We explore Germany’s beautiful Black Forest and visit the fairy tale that is Freiburg - where a more intimate market is held among the medieval lanes. We also visit the quaint Black Forest town of Gengenbach – home to the world's largest Advent Calendar. If you’re looking to get into the Christmas spirit or need to get some last minute gifts, this holiday is the one for you.

We journey aboard the Eurostar from London St. Pancras International to Paris and join the high-speed rail network to Strasbourg. From here, we meet our coach and are taken to the Black Forest town of Gengenbach to see the world's largest Advent Calendar. The 24 windows of the Town Hall are each decorated with a festive scene and a window is revealed every evening during advent. You’ll have some free time to take in the magnificent Christmas scents and festive atmosphere as you stroll around this romantic town. We continue by coach to our hotel in the Black Forest where we enjoy dinner this evening.

Gegenbach Christmas Market

Today we travel by coach to Freiburg to visit the Freiburg Christmas Markets. With its historic setting amongst the traditional timbered houses, this is a Black Forest delight and one of the most beautiful markets in Germany. It is laden with local treats for you to try including gingerbread, punch and mulled wine. Stand in awe as you watch the local artists and craftsman at work, making unique handmade Christmas gifts. We return to the hotel by coach and enjoy dinner this evening.

Freiburg Christmas Markets

After a leisurely breakfast, we board our coach and travel to Strasbourg, just over the border in the Alsace region of France. There's plenty of free time to explore the Christmas Markets. Many stalls are spread across twelve locations in the city centre, making this one of the largest Christmas markets in Europe. It is also one of the oldest, with the first market held in 1570. Each location has a different theme and there are gifts of every kind, along with plenty of activities and entertainment. Wander around and enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere. We return to the hotel by coach and enjoy dinner at the hotel this evening.

Strasbourg Christmas Markets

We check out of our hotel after breakfast and get a transfer by coach to Strasbourg Railway station. Then to Paris where we join the Eurostar for the return journey to London St. Pancras.
