On this fully escorted holiday, immerse yourself in the delights of northern Spain, and the traditional towns and villages of Portugal, including Porto and Coimbra. In Spain, we visit lovely Leon, location of the famous Gaudi-designed Casa Botines Palace. We also see the famous pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela and the beautiful resort town of San Sebastián. Crossing the border into Portugal, we head to the popular resort of Figueira de Foz, which will be our base for four nights. We also visit historic Porto. Sitting on the banks of the Douro River, the city offers a unique historical quarter. With the additional opportunity of a visit to Fatima and pretty Obidos, you’ll return home from your holiday with amazing memories.

Please note: When you board the ferry at Portsmouth or Plymouth, you will require a small overnight bag containing any essential items such as medication. Please note that this small bag (no larger than a small rucksack) is counted as part of your overall luggage allowance.

We continue into Galicia for a two-night stay on the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela. During the day, there will be the opportunity to walk some of the famous pilgrimage route.

Join our included excursion today to the famous pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela with a guide, visiting the Old Quarter and the cathedral. This Galician town is famous for being the end of the network of pilgrimage routes known as the 'Way of St James' or 'Camino de Santiago'. Many pilgrims come here to visit the tomb of St James the Apostle, which is located within the cathedral.

We cross into Portugal and head to Porto, a wonderful, walled city on the banks of the Douro River and origin of the famous fortified wine. An optional guided tour will show you many sights linked to Porto’s history including the scenic historical quarter and cathedral. We end our tour at a traditional port cellar before continuing to to the popular resort of Figueira da Foz, where we stay for four nights. Figueira has long been a favourite with UK holidaymakers, thanks largely to its extensive white sandy beaches, cosmopolitan atmosphere and mix of traditional and modern architecture.

Optional excursion which takes us firstly to the Pilgrimage town of Fatima. The town is regarded as one of the most important Catholic shrines in the world dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Explore the beautiful architecture of the town and see the most famous sights – the Batalha Church and Monastery. Fatima's Sanctuary welcomes thousands of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. We continue to the pretty, walled town of Obidos. See the winemaking techniques, along with a tour of the vineyard followed by a tasting of the local produce.

Leave Portugal and travel to the Burgos area for an overnight stay.

Spend some time in Burgos. The city's cathedral is a masterpiece of Spanish Gothic architecture. Explore the historic old quarter on the north bank of Rio Arlanzon. Later we head to the beautiful Spanish resort town of San Sebastián, picturesquely situated on a shell-shaped bay. We continue into France and stay overnight in the Biarritz/Ciboure area.
