Oberammergau Passion Play & the Austrian Tyrol
On this incredible fully escorted coach holiday, you’ll see the world famous German Passion Play in Oberammergau, as well as visiting some of Austria and Germany’s amazing cities and sights. A holiday to Austria wouldn't be complete without a stop-off in Salzburg to relax in the city's lovely squares, explore the quaint narrow shopping lanes, and perhaps sample a strudel and coffee in one of the many pavement cafés. In contrast, you’ll spend time in stunning Kitzbühel, an area of outstanding natural beauty. And we don’t do things by halves, because on this tour you’ll also enjoy time in Cologne with its imposing cathedral, the Rhine Valley which is home to beautiful scenery, and, delightful Rothenburg ob der Tauber, located on the Romantic Road. But let’s not forget the highlight of this holiday… the Oberammergau Passion Play. Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Belgium for an overnight stay.
We leave Belgium and head to the city of Cologne with its splendid Gothic cathedral and twin spires that dominate the skyline.
After free time, we continue along the Rhine Valley with the opportunity to enjoy an optional relaxing cruise along the river to admire the sedate scenery of the vineyards and castles that adorn the valley.
We continue to the Mannheim area for our overnight stay.

Today, we start our journey south through Germany, calling at Rothenburg ob der Tauber, located on the Romantic Road. There will be free time here for sightseeing and shopping – be sure to see the old town hall and its glockenspiel.
We continue to Austria and to our hotel for a four-night stay.

Today, join our included excursion to the ‘Sound of Music’ city, Salzburg. Here, you can enjoy free time to explore the quaint narrow shopping lanes and lovely squares, and perhaps sample a strudel and coffee in one of the many pavement cafés.
Our optional guided walking tour is also a wonderful way to discover sights and sounds that have made this delightful city so famous.

Join our optional scenic excursion along the Alpenstrasse to Lake Achensee, the largest lake in the Tyrol. Here you have some free time to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There is also the chance to take an optional cruise on the lake to take in the picturesque views.
As we return to our hotel, you have the choice to travel by coach or, for part of the way, take an optional ride on the rack-and-pinion railway from Seespitz to Jenbach which offers stunning views.

Kitzbühel is perhaps one of the most fascinating towns in the Alps and is home to a stunning historical town centre, full of character and charm. Founded in the 9th century B.C., Kitzbühel was originally a copper and silver mining centre before becoming the fashionable and prosperous winter resort it is today.
There will be plenty of time to browse around the shops or watch the world go by from one of the many cafés.

We leave Austria and travel to the Oberammergau area to check into our overnight accommodation. Lunch will be at noon, ahead of the Passion Play.
The play has a running time of approximately five hours in total, with a meal served during the interval. The performance begins at 2:30pm* concluding around 10:30pm, with a three-hour break at 5:00pm when dinner is provided. After the performance, you will be transferred back to your accommodation.
The play is traditionally performed in German and a textbook with the complete play text is included on all tours
* From 17th Aug-4th Oct, times for the play are as follows: performance begins at 1.30, dinner 4pm-7pm, performance ends at 9.30pm.

Oberammergau Tickets
Tickets for the 2022 Passion Play are only available as part of an official package and are allocated along with the hotel. Whilst we can't advise on the exact location of the seats, as a general rule, the higher the grade of accommodation, the better the seats – please see 'Accommodation' for more information.

Accommodation
You will stay for four nights in a 4-star hotel in the Austrian Tyrol, such as the Hotel Sonnschein in Niederau. You will also stay for one night in the Oberammergau area, where you will also enjoy a three-course meal.
Overnight stays in Belgium and in central Germany will be in city-style hotels.

Oberammergau
All
our holidays include accommodation in either Oberammergau itself or the
surrounding villages, so you can arrive in Oberammergau in good time before the
play and enjoy an included lunch before the performance begins. During your
stay in Oberammergau, you will also enjoy a three-course meal each night.
We
offer a choice of accommodation to suit all tastes. Hotels in Oberammergau have
been graded by the Passion Play committee according to the facilities
available. All categories of accommodation include shower or bath and WC.
There
are three different accommodation categories to choose from:
Category D: 2-star
hotels or 3-star pensions/guest houses – includes
a category 2 ticket.
Category C: 3-star hotels or 4-star
pensions/guest houses – includes a
category 1 ticket.
