Little Trains of the Romantic Rhine at New Year

Enjoy a number of exhilarating rail rides as you ‘all aboard’ this New Year coach holiday to Germany. Journey through some of the most spectacular scenery of the Rhine Valley on an optional tour into the Ahr Valley on board the Ahrtalbahn, and explore the wine region of Mayschoss. On New Year’s Eve we discover the stunning Eifel region on the Vulkan Express, a narrow gauge railway, before seeing in the New Year with a 'Venice Night' costume ball with live band and five-course festive feast. Then, at midnight watch with a glass of sparkling wine as the night sky lights up with fireworks before we celebrate the UK New Year with a sing-a-long.

Local departure by coach, then to Remagen, Germany for four nights at the 3-star Hotel Pinger.

Join our optional excursion into the Ahr Valley on board the Ahrtalbahn. We board the train not far from our hotel which will take you on a journey through narrow valleys past stunning scenery. We make a visit to romantic Altenahr, whose centre is dominated by the scattered ruins of the 12C castle. We continue to Mayschoss, famous for producing some of the finest red wines in Germany. You will get chance to taste the dark red wine for yourself on our visit to a local wine cellar. Our next stop is Ahrweiler which still retains its medieval gates and fortifications. The pedestrian streets, surrounded by half-timbered houses, are easy to explore on foot.

Included excursion, as we discover the Eifel region on board the Vulkan Express, a narrow gauge railway. The train will take you through one of the most scenic valleys of the Rhine from the half-timbered station at Burgbrohl to Engeln. The carriages are pulled by steam and diesel locomotives through the Brohl Valley where you will see volcanic formations, stone viaducts, castles and a monastery as you meander through the countryside.

Tonight we enjoy a New Year party with costume ball with live band and five-course festive dinner. At midnight we enjoy a firework display and glass of sparkling wine. Enjoy midnight soup and then at 01.00am, we celebrate New Year in the UK, with a sing-a-long.
