Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then onwards to the Paris area for an overnight stay.

Continue to the historic town of Arles, where we arrive this evening for a six-night stay.

Today, we enjoy the first of our boat trips, departing from Aigues-Mortes, a small, fortified town in the Camargue. This gentle navigation allows us to discover the history of this lovely medieval town and its surroundings. At around midday, you will be served a traditional lunch by the crew. We then return to port for a walking city tour of Aigues-Mortes. Later, we head by coach to the salt lakes where you will enjoy a tour on the motorised little train.

Aigues-Mortes

Join our included full-day excursion to Avignon, one of the major cities of the Provence region. Located on the banks of the River Rhône, Avignon is a charming Roman town famous for the Pont d’ Avignon or broken bridge. Originally the bridge had 22 arches, but now only 4 remain. Another popular tourist spot is the Place du Palais, located next to Place de L’horloge.

During the morning, we will have a tour around the city on the Little Town Train. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a Rhône River cruise. The cruise passes many of the most famous sightseeing spots of Avignon, such as Le Pont Avignon (Avignon’s Bridge), Palace of the Popes, the Rocher des Doms, the Pont Eiffel, Barthelasse Island, Piot Island, Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, and Phillippe Le Bel Tower.

Little Town Train Avignon Rhône River Cruise

Depart to Anduze to take the historical railway Train des Cévennes. Between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, we discover the Cévennes National Park. This 13-kilometre scenic ride will take you on a journey back in time. Enjoy the day, taking in the breathtaking views! Time for lunch at your leisure in St Jean du Gard. Later in the day we return by train from St Jean du Gard to Anduze.

Train des Cévennes

Included excursion to the Nature Park of the Camargue, a huge plain famous for its seas and marshlands, which are inhabited by an extraordinary variety of bird life. During the day, we enjoy a cruise on a traditional boat. Guided by the captain’s commentary, you will observe wildlife (bulls, horses, pink flamingos, and egrets) and vegetation (marshes, pine forests, samphire prairies), stopping half-way to meet a herdsman who will present his herd of black bulls and the indigenous Camargue horses.

Later, we return to Arles for a guided tour on foot seeing some of the highlights of the City, in particular the exterior of the 2000-year-old Roman Amphitheatre still in use today. This was originally built to hold 20,000 spectators in the style of the Colosseum in Rome.

The Camargue Traditional Camargue Cruise Arles guided tour

Day at leisure. Arles is a town best known for its architectural heritage and association with Vincent Van Gogh who lived and painted here in the 1880s. Visitors to Arles can follow in Van Gogh’s footsteps and see some of the scenery from his famous paintings, such as the café in Place du Forum or the Trinquetaille Bridge beside the River Rhône.

We leave Arles behind this morning as begin our journey northwards. During the day we call briefly at the beautiful town of Vienne. We continue to northern France for an overnight stay.
