Jersey 80th Anniversary of Liberation

Join us on the beautiful island of Jersey to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the island in WWII. Enjoy an included, guided tour of the island by local historian Ian Ronayne, who specialises in the occupation, and visit a number of World War II locations – some of which are not normally open to the general public – including the Noirmont Point Command Bunker, the German fortifications at Corbiere, the Channel Islands Military Museum, and Moltke Battery at Les Landes. Experience the extensive, planned celebrations for the anniversary, and explore the fascinating Jersey War Tunnels.

Fly to Jersey, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for a five-night stay.

Guided by Ian Ronayne, we spend the day visiting a number of World War II locations, some of which are not normally open to the general public. We travel to the coast for a guided tour of the Noirmont Point Command Bunker, seeing the German fortifications at Corbiere, visiting the Channel Islands Military Museum, and calling at Moltke Battery at Les Landes.

Today will mark the 80 years since Jersey was liberated from Nazi occupation in WWII. Liberation Day is a momentous occasion for all islanders. Expect live music, historical re-enactments, food stalls, on-stage entertainment, and much more. Head down to Liberation Square to watch the parade and take part in the celebrations.

Today you have a free day on Jersey to relax at your own pace, or our local representative will offer various optional excursions if you wish to explore the island further.

Why not visit La Hougue Bie, the most spectacular prehistoric monument on the Channel Islands? The 40-foot mound, which is topped by a medieval chapel, houses a Neolithic passage grave built around 3,000 BC. There is an introductory film, a film showing the building of the reproduction Long House, an archaeology museum, and a display of artefacts from the world's largest Celtic coin discovery made in 2012. There is also a German Command Centre which is now a memorial to the island's forced workers during World War II.

Or, you could visit stunning Gorey and Mont Orgueil Castle, and explore the pretty village and harbour. There is so much to see and do on the island.

We visit the Jersey War Tunnels – an enormous tunnel complex built by the Germans as an artillery barracks, but converted into a first aid field bunker as an emergency stand-by in 1943. It is now an excellent museum which tells the complete story of the Occupation through interactive displays.

We stop at St Brelade's Bay on our way home. Why not pop in for a drink at St Brelade's Hotel, a home to German soldiers during the Occupation.
