The battles of 1915 and the fighting at Arras and Cambrai in 1917 are important, but often forgotten battles of WW1. This battlefield tour helps explain their importance and take us off the beaten track. We begin with an in-depth look at the Battle of Loos and visiting the site of the Hohenzollern Redoubt. We move on to pay our respects at the Loos Memorial to the Missing before a day in northern France looking at the Battles of Fromelles. We spend our final day learning about the battles of Arras and Cambrai.

The tour was well organised and the guide very knowledgeable. My grouse is with the Leger Customer Call Centre. I tried to make contact a few days after returning to ask a question and my request registered on the phone button system was ignored. Three times! I think this is shoddy and left me feeling disappointed with Leger. Even now I would appreciate a call to ask what my enquiry was.

The guide Tim was brilliant and very informative. The crew member Stephen could do with an upgrade on customer service as he never smiled and hardly said a thank you. That is my only gripe.

We had a guide (Tim Thurlow) who really knew his stuff. The bus crew Helen and Steve were always pleasant and helpful.

An excellent tour and an excellent guide in Tim Thurlow. He brings all the battlefields and history of World War One into life. The days were full on but you expect that from a battlefield tour. They are the positives. The slight negatives are that unfortunately the coach crew,Helen and Steve, were not overly friendly. Not a major criticism but could have been a bit more interactive with the passengers more. Strangely they were nice to us on the last day(probably expecting tips!). This was a slight let down on the holiday. The second negative was that the coach was parked away from the hotel so we all had to take our luggage and walk a bit to the hotel. Didn’t bother me too much but not great for the slightly older passengers on the tour. I just wish leger would offer some sort of loyalty scheme, points etc for those that have done a few tours with them. This was my 15th battlefield tour with them. As a single traveller the single room supplements are a killer and adds extra costs for a not so cheap tours. That’s why I can only afford one tour a year now. Any bit of help with costs wouldnt go a miss.
