After breakfast, our coach takes us to Chartwell. Nestled in Westerham, Kent, Chartwell is a quintessential English country house and former residence of Winston Churchill. ‘The family man’ and past prime minister lived here from 1924 until the end of his life. The property was then opened to the public, and designated as a Grade I listed building due to its historical significance. On display today is an impressive array of Churchill’s belongings, including his books, awards, and paintings – he created more than 500 pieces over 50 years. Soak up the festive spirit as you wander the decorated house and enjoy a stroll through the picturesque gardens – be sure to treat yourself to a hot chocolate!

After our visit to Chartwell, we continue by coach to Hever Castle, a splendid, moated Tudor house and once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. In the early 20th century, William Waldorf Astor purchased and rejuvenated the castle, afterwards creating the beautiful gardens. The castle houses a treasure trove of art, tapestries, and antiques, and the gardens are a delight to explore, particularly the Italian garden with its sculptures and lake. Enjoy a stroll through the Tydor Garden or wander along Anne Boleyn’s walk. During the festive season, Hever Castle is a spectacle of light and colour. Its interiors glisten with traditional decorations, shimmering trees, and crackling log fires, while the exteriors and gardens dazzle with festive illuminations.

At the end of the afternoon, we return to our hotel by coach for our evening meal.

After breakfast, our coach takes us to Tenterden, where we’ll enjoy a return journey on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. As you settle into your first-class carriage, the train meanders through the stunning, wintery Wealden countryside. Our journey leads us to Northiam, where the steam engine refuels with water before heading back to Tenterden.

In the afternoon, our journey continues by coach to the magnificent Scotney Castle. Nestled in a 780-acre estate, Scotney Castle is made up of two properties: a stunning Victorian country mansion and the ruins of a medieval castle surrounded by a moat. Parts of the old castle date back to the 14th century, with contributions from the Darell and Hussey families over the years. In the 1830s, Edward Hussey III planned a new house perched beautifully overlooking the valley, intending for the ancient castle and its moat to become the focus of his new landscape garden. Step inside the Victorian mansion and explore this year’s festive theme, take some time to wander the grounds, and admire the picturesque views.

We return to the hotel by coach for dinner this evening.
