This special journey takes us to the most southerly of the three war cemeteries in Burma and the one associated with the infamous Burma-Siam Railway. The ‘Death Railway’ got no further than Thanbyuzayat, the remote location of the meticulously kept war cemetery close to the border with Thailand. Away from the railway we visit the colonial heart of Moulmein, referred to in Rudyard Kipling's writings.

We fly to Yangon (Rangoon) via Kuala Lumpur.
We arrive in Yangon where you will be met and transferred to your hotel, for a three-night stay.
We begin our day of Remembrance at the Taukkyan Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery where you will hear about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and have the opportunity to visit the Rangoon memorial, which lists the names of over 26,000 individuals who made the supreme sacrifice in the Second World War during the Burma campaign and who have no known grave; many of them died as Prisoners of War or in the isolated battles in the jungle. At Taukkyan War Cemetery we will also see the graves of six Victoria Cross winners including Lieutenant George Albert Cairns V.C. The afternoon is at your leisure before a visit to Shwedagon Pagoda. The pagoda is one of the most visited sights in Rangoon and at dusk is a spectacle to behold. It was visited by thousands of Commonwealth troops throughout the war and retains many memories for troops stationed in Burma.
