We journey aboard Eurostar from London St. Pancras International to Brussels, continuing by rail to Cologne and onwards to Berlin. On arrival into Berlin, our coach picks us up and transfers us to our hotel.

After breakfast, we are joined by a local guide and taken on a morning city tour by coach. We’ll see the Reichstag building – the seat of the German parliament – with its famous glass dome, the Bundestag, the Brandenburg Gate, the Gedächtniskirche at the Kurfürstendamm, Checkpoint Charlie, Alexanderplatz with the iconic Television Tower — the highest building of Berlin — and Potsdamer Platz. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. Dinner is included this evening.

After breakfast, we depart by coach for Potsdam. Here, we include a visit to the Sanssouci Palace and its beautiful gardens, which were designed by Frederick the Great. The king’s summer residence was ultimately his favourite place and sanctuary in difficult times.

We return to Berlin by coach later this afternoon – enjoy time at leisure to explore the sights, do a spot of shopping, or simply relax at the hotel.

We transfer by coach to Berlin railway station and travel by rail to Leipzig. On arrival, our coach and guide will take us on a sightseeing tour of Leipzig, taking in Augustusplatz with the opera, the Gewandhaus, and St. Nicholas Church where Bach composed some of his organ pieces. The market place and the old town hall form the classical city centre. See St. Thomas Church, which is renowned for its boys’ choir and is also the church where Johann Sebastian Bach was laid to rest. Visit the Battle of the Nations Monument, built in remembrance of the Battle of Leipzig 1813, where Napoleon fought against the allied troops.

We continue by coach to the small Saxon town of Colditz and visit the Colditz Castle. The castle sits on a steep hill overlooking the Mulde River. A former residence of the kings of Saxony, the castle was used in 1939 as a prisoner-of-war camp, and in 1940 it became a maximum-security prison for escape-prone Allied officers.

We arrive in Dresden later in the afternoon where you will check in at our hotel and enjoy an included dinner this evening.

After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a sightseeing tour of Dresden with a local guide. The city is nicknamed ‘Florence of the Elbe’ because of its Italianate architectural treasures. Situated on the left bank of the river, it has amassed many architectural masterpieces over the centuries. Despite the severe destruction the city endured during WWII, Dresden has managed to conserve or rebuild its beautiful buildings. Our guided tour introduces the city’s many highlights, such as the Baroque Zwinger Palace and the iconic Frauenkirche. After the sightseeing tour, enjoy exploring Dresden in a way that suits you.
