The French city of St. Quentin was the scene of heavy fighting throughout the First World War, particularly during the Battle of St. Quentin Canal in 1918. This new tour takes us on a fascinating trip around this often neglected area of the Western Front.

Local departure by coach then to our hotel in northern France, where we stay for three nights.
Today we start at the French and German Cemeteries in the city of St. Quentin, discussing the early battles of the war in this area. We then travel out to the area fought over in March 1918, seeing Manchester Hill and Savy British Cemetery.
After lunch, we continue to look at the area of the March 1918 battles, seeing the British Cemetery at Ham and looking at the British defence of the Somme Canal.
We end the day at the Pozières Memorial to the Missing.

This morning we continue to look at the fighting around St. Quentin, discovering the stories of Ivor Gurney and Wilfred Owen. We then look at the final battle on the Hindenburg Line in September 1918, seeing the Riqueval Bridge and the area where Wilfred Owen was awarded his Military Cross in October 1918.
After lunchtime in Le Cateau, we see where Owen died on the Sambre Canal and pay our respects at his grave. Later, we take a look at the Old Contemptibles battles in this area, visiting Etreux and the unique British cemetery there.
We then end our tour by travelling back from Guise, the scene of a major battle in 1914, to St. Quentin.
