Itinerary

Please choose your preferred 5 day itinerary

Door-to-Door departure, then by coach to our hotel in Einruhr, Germany, for a four-night stay.

Today, enjoy a morning at leisure to explore your beautiful surroundings. Perhaps take a stroll by the lake or enjoy a coffee on the hotel terrace, as you watch the lake cruisers moor by the hotel.

This afternoon, we enjoy an optional excursion to the imperial frontier town of Aachen, which boasts some fine examples of medieval architecture, including the superb cathedral and town hall.

See the Elisenbrunnen fountain, a famous symbol of Aachen’s heritage as a spa town or, to learn about the history of Aachen, why not visit the Centre Charlemagne?

Delicacies to be found in local bakeries include the spiced gingerbread known as 'Aachener Printen’, or the 'Rice Cake', a light yeast dough filled with sweet and creamy rice and oven baked for a golden yellow appearance.

Optional Excursions

Our optional excursions are a great addition to enhance your holiday experience and are highly recommended.

The optional excursions will be available to book during your tour.

Prices are per person and are subject to change. Payment will be in Euros (cash payments only).

Join our included excursion as we combine two scenic regions: the forested Eifel Hills, and the pretty Ahr Valley, with its sleepy wine-growing villages.

The Eifel region was once a volcanic area, though maybe not overly obvious, the circular crater lakes offer a striking tell-tale sign of the hot-tempered beginnings of this stunning area.

We visit the historic and romantic spa town of Bad Münstereifel, with its half-timbered houses, narrow alleyways and charming town centre, before continuing into the Ahr Valley.

The vineyards dotted on the slopes of the Ahr provide the grapes for some of the best German red wines.

We also visit the old town of Ahrweiler, which still retains its medieval gates and fortifications.

Today, we enjoy a full-day, included excursion to Monschau – a photographer’s paradise!

Half-timbered façades overlook twisting streets, cobbled walkways and quaint market squares make Monschau one of Germany’s most picturesque towns.

Visit the Rotes Haus (Red House), built in 1760 for the draper Johann Heinrich Scheibler, now open as a museum.

A local speciality to try whilst in town is the famous Monschau Mustard, if you dare! The mustard mill sells the fiery condiment in many flavours, including honey, green pepper and even Riesling!

This was a good trip except for a visit to the Eifel Visitor Centre which I found very disturbing. I am not interested in the Socialist history of Germany and the Wildness Exhibition seemed to be aimed more to school children. There were a lot of disused and abandoned buildings which indicated the previous use of the site. In their brochure it states "While Vogelsang was a site where contempt for humanity was lived out in practice." There was a very unpleasant and strong atmosphere and no sign of any birds or birdsong. This experience spoilt a good holiday for me.

A trip to a Beautiful part of Germany, small picturesque towns and villages. Monschau is stunning and well worth a decent time here exploring( I suggest 3.5 hours). Aachen is a beautiful old town with lovely Churches and a Cathedral, theatre, lunchtime market, old spa and lots of independent shops plus Supermarkets AND C/A and WOOLWORTHS..Nice hotel right by the lake( nice to walk around ). Not much open in the immediate area until April.
