With its warmer weather and welcoming cities, isn’t it time you discovered the island of Madeira? Fly to Funchal from a local airport and start your holiday to the ‘floating garden’ of Madeira, where you’ll stay for seven nights. It’s from here we enjoy a guided tour of the city, walking through its charming streets taking in the historical surroundings, before indulging in a spot of wine tasting. There are many highlights on this holiday but for us, seeing the beautiful gardens of Monte and the famous Botanical Gardens are a must!

Today we enjoy an included guided tour of Funchal city, starting at the Old Town. Immerse yourself in the interesting historical architecture and monuments, walking through charming narrow streets dating from the 15th century with modern artistic painted doors.
We will also visit the market, Mercado dos Lavradores, an Art Deco building which is always bustling with activity. See the amazing displays of local tropical fruit and vegetables and don’t miss the fish market, with the fresh Espada or tuna fish.
Crossing the main streets of the city and passing by important monuments, we reach one of the most important Madeira wine producers, and a wonderful way to finish our tour with a Madeira wine tasting – two types of wines will be served. Saúde (cheers)!

Join our included excursion, as we start the day by driving to Câmara de Lobos, a fishing village that inspired Winston Churchill on his visit. See the charming bay with its small colourful fishing boats.
Along the way, the landscape is predominately cultivated terraces with banana plantations or vineyards. The next stop will be at Cabo Girão, one of the highest sea cliffs in the world at 580 metres above sea level, where you can enjoy the amazing views from its suspended glass platform.
We continue to Ribeira Brava, with a visit to the church of São Bento with its interesting paintings. Still on the south coast, we reach Ponta do Sol and drive up to Paul da Serra plateau, reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands with beautiful views across the green valley of Rabaçal.
Later, we reach Porto Moniz, known for its natural pools and lava rocks. See the many waterfalls along the wild northern coastline before reaching S.Vicente. We travel up to Encumeada Pass at 1,007 metres high and cross the island back to the south coast and to Funchal.

Join our optional morning excursion which takes us to the viewpoint at Pico dos Barcelos (350m) with splendid views over Funchal and its bay.
Afterwards, we continue up to Eira do Serrado (1094m) with a beautiful panoramic view over the highest peaks of Madeira and the Nun's Valley, Curral das Freiras.
Our next visit is to Monte, the most famous suburb of Funchal, where tourism started in the early 19th century. After a short walk through the beautiful gardens of Monte, we will visit the church of Our Lady of Monte.
This evening, we enjoy a typical Madeira evening with local specialities. This traditional dinner takes place in a local restaurant where the typical 'Espetada' is served, accompanied by other delights of Madeiran gastronomy.

Join our optional excursion as we head up to the third highest peak of Madeira, the Pico do Arieiro (1810m) with fantastic views across the whole island.
We continue to the nature resort of Ribeiro Frio (Cold River), where we have a short walk to the viewpoint 'Balcões', and continue our trip passing by Faial and up to Santana. Here, we visit the typical triangular houses, brightly coloured in blue, red and white, and covered with straw.
Lunch will be served, after which we continue along the north coast, passing by Porto da Cruz, a small village situated beside the gigantic Penha d'Águia (Eagles rock), a majestic rock overlooking the sea. We cross towards the south coast to Ponta de São Lourenço and enjoy the beautiful views to Baia D’Abra.
The last stop of the day will be in Machico, the place where the island discoverers first disembarked in the 15th century.

Join our optional levada walk today, which is the best way to discover the hidden corners of Madeira. We walk along the ‘levada’ which are water channels carrying water from the north of the island to the south and eastern areas.
Afterwards, we pay a visit to Funchal’s Botanical Garden, where there is the chance to admire thousands of plants, flowers and trees.

Join an optional boat trip along the south coast, on board a replica of Santa Maria de Colombo with Madeira wine and Madeira honey cake served on board. Keep an eye out for the dolphins or even whales.

You can choose to stay for seven nights at either the 4-star Baia Azul Hotel or the 5-star Quinta das Vistas Palace Gardens.
The 4-star Baia Azul Hotel is situated on the west side of Funchal, just a couple of miles from the centre. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance and the hotel offers a shuttle bus service into Funchal. The hotel was refurbished in 2015 and is decorated with modern stylings and light colours. All bedrooms are fully equipped with T.V., spacious verandas, air-conditioning, telephone, hairdryer and safe (at additional cost). Relax by the swimming pool, enjoy fine food in the restaurant, with its delicious buffets and enjoy a cocktail or two in the Panoramic Bar.
We may also use the 4-star Alto Lido Hotel which is ideally positioned in the seaside town of Funchal, close to beautiful beaches and inviting cafés.
The 5-star Quinta das Vistas Palace Gardens is situated overlooking Funchal, with panoramic views over the city, Atlantic Ocean and surrounding mountains. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens in a most peaceful setting and offers a shuttle bus to take you to Funchal old town. All bedrooms have a balcony, air-conditioning, telephone, safe, T.V. and hairdryer. The hotel has a choice of swimming pools, plus the Albatroz Piano Bar, Ocean Bar and La Belle Terrasse Restaurant with its panoramic views.
