From our base in Schlüsselfeld, this holiday features a delightful cocktail of romantic cities, charming castles and time for a tipple or two with a spot of wine tasting! Visit the ‘Beer city’ of Bamberg, built over seven hills and take a guided tour of the city’s rich history. Revel in regal architecture as we travel to Memmelsdorf and see the famous Seehof Castle. Our tour continues, as we cruise the river Veitshöchheim and pass vineyards and idyllic castles after a visit to Würzburg, with wine-tasting at a historic wine cellar. As the holiday comes to an end, why not join us on a tour to Bavaria's second largest city, Nuremberg, see the city’s many monuments and artworks, which reflect its imperial past.

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Belgium for an overnight stay.

We head across Germany to reach our hotel in Schlüsselfeld where we stay for four nights. Dinner tonight is accompanied by a presentation and tasting of wines from Franconia

Today we include a full day excursion to the UNESCO world cultural heritage site of Bamberg and Seehof Castle. We head first to Bamberg, known as the ‘Beer City’ or the ‘Franconian Rome’, being built over seven hills. We included a guided city tour, to show you the main highlights. With a rich history of 1000 years, Bamberg is a real jewel of Franconia. Explore ‘The Sand’, the oldest part of the city, and the dreamlike island city ‘Little Venice’. In the afternoon we head to nearby Memmelsdorf and visit Castle Seehof, which was built in 1686 as the summer residence of the Prince-bishops of Bamberg. We include entrance to the castle and a guided tour.

Included excursion as we head through the Franconian wine growing country to Würzburg, the residence town of the prince-bishops beside the Main. We enjoy an included guided walk as we take a journey through the Centuries. See Fortress Marienberg, the grand baroque Residence and historic heart of the city. We include a visit to the historic wine cellar under the world cultural heritage ‘Residenz’ and round off the tour with a glass of Frankenwein! Later enjoy time at leisure and an included cruise on the river to Veitshöchheim and back to Würzburg. On the journey back to our hotel we pass vineyards and idyllic castles. Dinner tonight is a buffet of Franconian specialities, followed by musical entertainment with a local accordion player.

Join our optional excursion to Nuremberg, which was once a powerful free imperial city. Even today, numerous buildings, monuments and artworks still reflect its former power. The walking tour through the Old Town shows the main sights, including many of the architectural highlights - churches, the castle, the fountains and wells.

Accommodation

You will stay for four nights at the 3-star superior Hotel Zum Storch in Schlüsselfeld. This charming family run hotel is built in Franconian style and offers 54 bedrooms, all fully equipped with satellite T.V. Some rooms have balconies. The restaurant is well known for its excellent food and service.

Overnight stays in Belgium will be in city-style hotels.
