Bruges Highlights

Belfry of Bruges

One of the city’s most prominent symbols, the Belfry of Bruges is a medieval tower situated in the historical centre – the Markt. On the way up the 366 stairs you can visit the treasury, where the city's stamps, seals and funds were kept in the Middle Ages, before being rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views at the top.

Basilica of the Holy Blood

Located in a corner of Burg Square, this 12th century chapel is famous for the crystal vial kept inside that is believed to contain a drop of Jesus Christ’s blood. Consisting of two levels which could not be more different, the Romanesque lower level has very little decoration, whilst the Gothic upper level is full of detail and colour.

Museums

There’s an abundance of history to unravel in Bruges, and plenty of museums to help you do so. Art lovers will want to visit the Groeninge Museum, which houses rich collections of Flemish Primitive and Renaissance works. With other museums covering everything from Flemish life and torture to fries, beer and chocolate, there’s something for everyone!
