Excellent tour, Turkish coach driver was the best, the guides knowledge and compassion for the subject greatly added to the experience. The one complaint was Heathrow and British Airways felt embarrassed to be British.

Well organised tour that covered most of the major sites, accompanied by in-depth narrative from our expert guide who discussed both the naval and land-based allied actions, as well as the Turkish perspective too. The itinerary was good, but didn't stick to what was sent to us, we seemed to spend longer at certain locations, e.g. Hill 10, and not enough at others, e.g. Courtney's Post. I would have liked to walk the track from Anzac through Monash Valley and up to the front line on the second ridge, perhaps this could be offered as an optional paid evening excursion in future? I would have also liked to visit Hill 60 and Chocolate Hill down at Suvla, but sadly not enough time for anything other than a drive past. Oh well, I'll just have to make another trip! The first hotel we stopped at in Istanbul was a real disappointment after a long journey. No meal was provided and what food was available was not great quality and expensive, but not as expensive as the price of drinks. If this hotel is to be used again in future, please warn the group! By contrast, the Hotel Kum, where we stayed for the next four nights was excellent. Comfortable room, great food, beautiful grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced drinks too. My early morning walk down to the beach at sunrise and again in the evening to watch the sun setting are favourite memories, I'd happily stop there again. Our final hotel, the Iris, on the other side of the Dardanelles, was well situated with great views from the terrace. It is a new hotel with a light, comfortable room overlooking the pool. Sounds nice, but on the downside, the shower trickled then stopped and went from warm to very hot then cold quite quickly. I certainly didn't expect to finish my shower using bottled water! I also found the staff rather indifferent at this hotel and wouldn't want to stay again. The trip down to Troy was something that a fair few members of the group were dissatisfied with, it wasn't part of the Gallipoli campaign after all. Our local guide gave a fascinating account though and had amazing knowledge. It was a real shame that some of the group wouldn't shut up and listen to what he had to say. Overall, a good tour which could be made a little better, but one that I would recommend nonetheless. Gallipoli is a fascinating and beautiful place, a real feast for the senses.
