Itinerary

Please choose your preferred 5 day itinerary

Local departure by coach, then onward to Germany and our hotel in Aachen for a four-night stay.

We start the day on the Siegfried Line - or the Westwall as the Germans called it - close to the city of Aachen seeing examples of bunkers and dragon's teeth tank traps. We look at the battle for 'Bloody Aachen' and after lunch visit the Netherlands American Cemetery near Maastrict. We see the fascinating displays at the Eyewitness WW2 museum in Beek and visit British graves from the fighting on the Siegfried Line at Nederweert War Cemetery.

Includes Breakfast

Today we travel to the Hurtgenwald, the Hurtgen Forest where US forces got bogged down in costly fighting. We visit the Hurtgenwald Museum, visit the graves of the German dead from the battle, see the signs of battle among the trees and see where the fighting took place. We then visit Hill 400 and the bunkers where the US 2nd Rangers, heroes of Pointe du Hoc in Normandy, fought in December 1944.

Includes Breakfast

Early 1945 saw the introduction of many new weapons on the Allied side and at the village of Elsdorf we look at the use of Pershing tanks and where one of them came up against a Tiger tank. We then follow the route to the Rhine and look at the battle for Remagen Bridge, seeing the museum and the remains of the bridge. We end the day at nearby Koblenz with a visit to the superb German Army Defence Technology Museum which has many tanks and artillery pieces from the Second World War.
