Our included excursion today takes us across the German border into Bavaria and to the lovely town of Füssen. Located at the southern end of the Romantic Road and above the River Lech there will be a short amount of free time to discover the medieval centre of this charming town. We continue our journey to the village of Hohenschwangau, the home of King Ludwig II’s famous Neuschwanstein castle. The panoramic views from each side of the castle are truly breathtaking. Built in the 19th century, King Ludwig encouraged plans for this German Gothic castle but unfortunately died before the end of its construction. This romantic castle, upon which Walt Disney based Sleeping Beauty’s Palace, is one of Germany’s most popular images. We include entrance into the castle where you will be escorted around on a guided tour.

Please note: during the tour of the castle you will be required to climb 165 steps and descend 181, therefore this excursion may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.

This was a very good holiday, we saw an awful lot in a very short time. The highlight of the trip was the visit to Neuchwanstein Castle, unfortunately this was late in the day so a bit of hanging around waiting. We all agreed even the drivers that Leger needs to swap the timing and have us visit there in the morning and visit Fussen in the afternoon. The Arosa train journey was excellent but when we got there at lunchtime everything was closed, another victim of poor timing. The hotels were good in both in Wavre and Feldkirch both in the actual towns so you could get out and explore at night. Feldkirch especially is a lovely place. Enjoyed the holiday and would recommend, it will be even better when the excursion times are improved.

The coach that we travelled on had faulty air conditioning and the weather was quite hot, which made our journey very uncomfortable. The driver kept telling us not to use the toilet. On our last overnight stop we left at 6AM to rush to Calais to catch an early ferry which resulted in us waiting in stop 24 for three hours for our coach home. We had the impression that our main driver was doing things to suit himself and nog the customers who pay his wages.

A good trip, should have chosen the longer trip, as there was a lot of travelling for 3 days in the Alps..
