Enjoy a short break in France, combining the splendid house and gardens of Claude Monet, inspiration for so many of his paintings, with a full day in Versailles and time in Pays d’Auge, famous for its splendid green countryside, excellent cheeses and lush apple orchards. On this coach holiday, you’ll visit Versailles, home to the fabulous château created for Louis XIV and home to 800 hectares of stunning gardens. Entrance to the gardens at Versailles is included. We also visit one of the most famous gardens of all time, that of Claude Monet in Giverny – remember those water lilies? As for the Pays d’Auge in the Normandy area, this beautiful region is home to the village of Camembert, known worldwide for its famous cheese, where you can taste the delicious Camembert at a local cheesery.

This morning we travel to the pretty village of Giverny to visit the home of Claude Monet. The artist lived here from 1883 until his death in 1926, and today his house, and in particular, the gardens – made famous by his painting of the water lilies, have been restored to Monet’s original designs. His gardens, stretching from his house down to the river, provided the inspiration for many of his famous paintings, such as the series of ‘Nympheas’ or Water Lilies and his ‘Pont Japonais’ or Japanese Bridge, which has also been rebuilt for visitors to enjoy. We then continue to the beautiful town of Rouen, where you will have time at leisure to explore this delightful Normandy town.

We spend the day in the beautiful Pays d’ Auge, famous for its splendid green countryside, excellent cheeses and lush apple orchards. Our first stop is in the pretty historical city of Lisieux. Home to an extravagant hillside basilica, Lisieux is considered to be the second most important pilgrimage town in France, thanks to its 19th century saint, Therese Martin. We later continue to southern Normandy and the village of Camembert, known worldwide for its famous cheese. During the day we will visit both a local cheesery, where you can taste the local Camembert, and a traditional Normandy farm, where we will see how the local apples are made into cider, calvados (a local apple brandy) and Pommeau (a drink which combines apple juice with apple brandy), before sampling the produce.

Versailles entry was not included and on the day it was fully booked so very disappointed as that s what I did trip for. Also cheese factory was a waste of time like a school trip as you could not buy any cheese as it would go off. Apart from that calvados and monets gardens were really good

An excellent tour, however Ledger need to inform clients that they need to buy tickets online before visiting The Palace of Versilles as there is not a facility to buy tickets on the day of your visit .

The itinerary is very good but be prepared for a long journey. Also, if you want to see inside the Chateau you have to pay extra and book yourself but I would recommend this. Monet's Garden is nice and there is a lovely tearoom on site. The visit to Camembert was interesting but be warned do not buy their raw milk Camembert unless you are going to eat it that day as it only lasts 7 hours before needing refrigeration and the hotel we were in didn't have a fridge in the room. The hotel we stayed in was across the river away from the centre of Rouen and it wasn't easy to find restaurants at night. The hotel was B&B only and they didn't seem prepared for coach parties as one morning we came down for breakfast and another party had practically cleared them out and quite a few items weren't replaced. At night they did pizzas and other snack type meals (all microwaved) if you didn't want to venture out and these were nice. It's quite a busy itinerary and some people didn't like all the travelling but we were prepared for this and unless you do it yourself by car I think it's the only way to see everything we did. We travelled on Legers Luxuria coach which I thoroughly recommend.

Monet's Garden and Versailles were both stunning and were beyond my expectations. We had a good amount of time to explore them. They were my. main reason for booking this tour. Although the cheese and calvados was not my main reason for going, they were informative and the people who owned the apple farm and the cheese factory were lovely.
