The Dordogne is a region of stunning natural beauty, where medieval villages seemingly cling to hillsides and cliff faces, castles tower above lush green riverbanks and rolling vineyards, and awe-inspiring caves provide the setting for this region steeped in history and legend. We begin with a visit to the Remembrance village of Oradour-sur-Glane, which has been left untouched since WW2. From here, we travel to our base in Rocamadour, where we discover the city’s many delights. Descend the cave complex of Gouffre de Padirac and take a short boat trip on the underground river. Explore the old towns and villages of the Lot Valley, before we tour the Dordogne. We see Sarlat, one of the most beautiful towns in the region, and Beynac with its spectacular castle. As we leave Rocamadour behind, our holiday comes to an end in the medieval town of Martel.

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to the Paris area for an overnight stay.
We leave our hotel in Paris, pausing for a Remembrance visit at the village of Oradour sur Glane, which stands frozen in time since the terrible massacre on 10th June 1944 by the German SS, who also destroyed the entire village.
After the war, General Charles de Gaulle decided the village should never be rebuilt, and for it to remain a memorial site. A stroll around the empty streets of this silent monument is a very moving experience. We then continue our journey to the Dordogne region, and the village of Rocamadour where we stay for four nights.

Enjoy a morning at leisure exploring the pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, where Saint Amadour was reputed to have lived as a hermit. There are many small chapels to explore, including the Chapelle de Notre Dame with its famous Black Madonna, a 12th century carved wooden depiction of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.
This afternoon we travel to Gouffre de Padirac, a spectacular cave complex for an included tour. We descend 103 metres via the cave lift before joining the underground river for a boat trip through the tunnels, seeing impressive 60 metre high stalactites. We then continue the tour on foot seeing the Grand Dome chamber, a 94 metre high vault.
Please note that this excursion may not be suitable for customers with particular health conditions. The tour takes place between 75 & 103 metres underground and is a 2km round trip, the majority of which is on foot. The walk is flat but there will be a large number of steps to negotiate.

Fantastic tour, Drivers brilliant especially Sonia who negotiated the tunnel into Rocamadour with great skill. Most passengers were lovely and many of us made friends & gelled as a group. I'm Anne Murray and I want to raise one issue: I sat in the window seat 3rd row behind driver on coach. Lady sitting in front of me (also called Anne!) caused a number of issues/problems. She delayed the coach departure by 30 minutes in Paris, repeatedly expected drivers and passengers to CARE FOR HER/ DO THINGS FOR HER. She told me she had lost confidence and needed someone to go around with her and wanted me to wait outside the toilet whilst she paid a visit. I refused!!! She had a wheelchair, a walker, two walking sticks (which were not a matching pair!) and a mobility scooter which the driver had to assemble each day because she was incapable. She struggled to get on and off the coach without help. She was a real drama queen and constantly attracted peoples attention to help her. This is unfair on all passengers and drivers. Please review whether she is FIT to travel with you again. I am also disabled but very independent and walk with two sticks which are a matching pair, set to the right height by my Physiotherapist! People are on holiday & I don't put upon them.

Rocamadour has little to offer. A half day's visit would suffice rather than staying there in a rather old hotel. I would have liked to have been nearer the river Dordogne. The drivers were wonderful, the food was average

Rocamadour & surrounding areas were beautiful we didn't enjoy the hotel or the meals they served & wouldn't recommend it. Our drivers were excellent & couldn't do enough for us
